Whatever your opinion of T.D. Jakes, "Don't Drop The Mic" is a good read for anyone wanting to improve their communication skills, especially in public speaking. Jakes, a megachurch pastor of a church in Dallas TX, is a very dynamic speaker, regardless of whether or not you may agree with his theology. The book is around 400 pages and covers many topics on the subject, including:- Obstacles to speaking (note: public speaking is one of the greatest fears a person may have, according to many surveys).- Determining what the best setting/situation is for you in public speaking (some situations are much better than others).- Learn from your speaking experiences and get feedback from others.- Speaking to what the audience needs and needs to hear.- The importance of preparation. Many, many other topics are covered and the book is a good balance of biblical insights, the author's experiences, and the experiences of other people. The book is well-written, flows smoothly from topic to topic, and has many good insights for both the aspiring and veteran public speaker. About the only complaint I have is sometimes the author can be a little wordy when trying to make a point.Comment aside, a good title and recommended. Bishop Jakes voice has again been proven to be the voice for these times. Thanks for not dropping the mic!
